Today you should read: Psalm 34

William MacDonald writes about verse 1 in this way, “salvation from sin is a gift of such tremendous value that it should draw unceasing thanks from our hearts to the Giver. IF we were to bless the Lord at all times, it could hardly be too much. If His praise were to be continually on our lips, we couldn’t begin to exhaust the subject. No human tongue will ever be able to thank God adequately throughout all eternity.” Today, we can say with great confidence that the Lord is good! What an amazing Father we have in Christ! Amen?

Verse 2 – The person who realizes their need of Jesus repents from their sins and turns toward Christ, boasts only in God, not in their own character.

Verse 3 – The person who realizes their need of Jesus repents from their sins and turns toward Christ, rejoices not in isolation, but with the BODY of Christ and together as a family (CPC), brings God glory!

Verse. 4 – When God’s Spirit begins to move and work in the life of the unbeliever (think back to when you began to seek) they can’t help but search for God. When they find Him they realize they were not seeking Him, but it was the Lord who first sought them out!

Verse 5 – All those who repent of sin and turn to Christ in faith become like the sun. They are radiant with joy. Depression and despair are now rooted in the delight of the gospel.

Verse 6 –Those who God seeks He hears their cry, stoops down and pulls them out of all their trouble—out of the tangled mess of sin that they put themselves in.

Verse 7 – God saves us and keeps us – He is like a mighty force circling those who know Him as Lord and Savior. This is such an amazing REALITY!

Verse 8-9 – Those who know the Savior long to share Him with others. MULTIPLY. Anyone who knows Christ goes from a sin sick sinner to a healthy believer. Anyone who is healthy wants to bring those who are sick to the Master Healer – those who bring sin sick unbelievers to the Healer are MULTIPLIERS – Multiply because of the JOY the Healer brings through salvation by grace through faith in Christ.

Verses 11-15 – The Psalmist now offers practical instruction on what it means to fear the Lord: control your tongue, be consecrated (set apart) and live in peace with all men (do your level headed best).

Verse 16 – The unrighteous are cut off from God (praise God today remembering that at one time in your life – YOU were cut off too, but by His grace He transferred you from the dominion of darkness into the kingdom of His Son – Col. 1:13)

Verse 17 – AMAZING! Believers have INSTANT access to the Lord.

Verse 18 – God is actively opposed to the proud, but He will not resist a broken and contrite heart.

Verse 19 – The righteous one’s life is not free from affliction. Sometimes it will look as though the righteous one’s life is filled with affliction, but the present pain and suffering will pale in comparison to the future glory of being with God for ALL eternity!!

Verse 20 – Even in death God protects His saints.

William MacDonald’s commentary on verses 21 and 22… “the last two verses of the Psalm hinge on the word condemned. As for the wicked, calamity shall bring them down to death, and they shall be condemned. But, the servants of Jehovah have One who redeems their soul, and none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.” Praise God, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1

My prayer is that God will be at the center of everything you do today! Be encouraged by the God who Saves!

Worship God – Enjoy God – Be useful to His kingdom.

  1. This passage is just FULL of overwhelming promises from the Lord! Thanking God today for those promises and that I don’t get what I deserve (taken from our “Grace” series) but rather that I am the benefactor of the riches of his love and care. Praying that my life, and that of my CPC family, will radiantly reflect the beauty of God’s character and that it will serve to point the lost to the ONLY light of our world…..Jesus Christ and his redeeming love through salvation in Him!!!
