Today you should read: Jeremiah 13

Jeremiah and the people of Israel and Judah learned a very important lesson in today’s passage that you and I need to hear and take to heart.

Pride always ruins things because God hates pride

God gave Jeremiah a strange object lesson to teach him that. He had Jeremiah buy a nice belt, wear it a bit and then hide it in the ground. Then, after a while had passed, he went back and got it and it was ruined. God then told Jeremiah that pride does the same thing, it ruins things.

So what we can take away here is this:

When we harbor pride in our lives it ruins our lives

When we have pride it hurts us in several areas of our lives:

  • It hurts relationships when we can’t admit we are wrong.
  • It hurts our walk with God when we believe we know better than He does.
  • It hurts our marriages when we can’t bring ourselves to say we are sorry.

Pride is a virus that spreads throughout every part of you if you let it. It is the worst type of sin when someone believes they are better than God and that is what pride does.

So today, ask yourself honestly if there are areas of your life where you have pride issues. Don’t fool yourself, just because you only struggle with pride in one area doesn’t mean it won’t spread to others, it will. If you have pride in your life, take steps to humble yourself. Go apologize, go do that job you thought was beneath you. If you don’t humble yourself, God’s Word is clear that He will do it for you and it usually isn’t pretty.

So to quote the wise sage Ice Cube (a rapper for those who don’t know) “You better check yo self before you wreck yo self.”

  1. I was immediately given a heart check when GOD said, you are good for nothing! I know where my heart is right now and it’s not where it should be. What an awakening, how convicting. Total gut check, in my work environment, my marriage, my parenting. Ouch.
