Today you should read: James 3:13-18
What’s down in the well will come up in the bucket!!
This is a foundational leadership principle. It’s not original with me – Jesus said it…
A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs are never gathered from thorn bushes, and grapes are not picked from bramble bushes. A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. Luke 6:44-45
This is why Solomon, in Proverbs 4 says…
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Proverbs 4:23
James says – put your actions where your mouth is…
If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life… (v.13)
Our actions show others our true heart. Things like bitter jealousy and selfish ambition – boasting and lying are not from God – they are unspiritual and fleshly.
James reminds us that godly wisdom is pure – it’s loving and gentle – it’s willing to yield the right away to others – it’s full of mercy and good deeds.
What’s coming up in your bucket lately? It’s a picture of your heart. Not so good? I have GREAT news! Jesus can change a heart – just ask Him.
