Today you should read: Isaiah 33

It pays to be on the right side…

Remember playing pickup ball as a kid? I remember playing outside until dark – in the fall it was football, in the spring it was baseball, and many other sports in-between. We always chose teams – and sometimes – you got on the wrong one. When you’re on that team – you can’t win for anything. Getting on the right side makes all the difference.

Israel versus Assyria. God’s hand was on His people Israel. If you’re a Christ-follower, His hand is on you, too. No matter what you’re going through this week, God will take care of you. Look at all the ways God blessed Israel and blesses us.

▪ His Mercy (v.2)
Lamentations says that God’s Mercy is new every morning. Mercy is God not giving us what we really deserve. Our sin deserves hell – our actions deserve God’s wrath – but God extends MERCY to us.

▪ His Protection (v.2,21) [strong arm]
Only heaven will reveal how many times God has protected us from danger…how many times He’s re-directed a car, moved a violent storm, or changed the heart of a villain. God protects His children.

▪ Giving us a Sure Foundation (v.6)
Nothing is better than standing firm – especially in a shifting sand culture. God gives a secure footing though His eternal Word.

▪ Giving us Salvation (v.6,22)
The greatest gift of all – paying for our sins and giving us eternal life rather than eternal judgment. God so loved you and me, that He gave His only Son…

▪ Giving us Wisdom and Knowledge (v.6)
Wisdom comes from God (James 1:5). He’s the source of knowledge and wisdom. His Word has rich principles on how to run our lives.

▪ Forgiving our sins (v.24)
Forgiveness of sins… how good is that? GRACE – God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense – the forgiveness of sins.

Reflect on God’s goodness in your life – thank Him for His blessings on you today.
