Today you should read: Colossians 3:18-25

In this passage we see 5 different commands given to 5 Separate people and then a fial charge for all.

1. Wives submit to your husbands
Wives should respect and follow their husbands. God designed life and the home to work this way. Sadly, many men have not done a good job at this and women have had to step in and take this role. I encourage women, don’t do that. Leave it open. It might uncomfortable for a time but it will spur your husband on to fill his role.
2. Husbands love your wives
Women long for love and affection from their man. Women want to be cherished. We as men need to remember this and hold this as a high priority in our marriages. Date your wife, pursue your wife. Love her and show that love to her, don’t just tell her.
3. Children obey your parents
It’s always nice when the bible tells our kids to obey. But it is vital that we parents teach this and model this to our kids s the grow up. As we treat each other and others so they will learn to treat us and others. When they see humble submission in us they will see our example and be more inclined to follow suit.
4. Fathers do not aggravate your kids
It is easy for a dad who comes home tired from work to fly off the handle when the kids get crazy. It is easy for a mom who has “had it up to here” with the kids all day to lose it on one final straw. Fathers are are named here because, one fathers lead their families and. Contrary to popular belief, fathers are responsible for their kids development, not mom. Mom is a big part of that but you are the leader dad. Do not allow anger to be the fuel for your discipline. Use wisdom and love instead. Burns a lot slower and gets the job done right.
5. Slaves obey your masters
I don’t believe this is God advocating slavery so much as he is telling slaves that, in their current situation, they are not excused doing what is right. They are to obey and please their masters, even when they are not around. I have to imagine such a feat to would be hard. I certainly would not want to please a master who is over me and essentially owns me. But we are not allowed to change the rules due to our circumstances.

The final challenge is this:

Whatever you find yourself doing, do it well, as though it is for the Lord.

So no matter what job or career you have, do it for God. If you are a stay at home mom, clean and watch the kids for Jesus. If you are a business person, do truthful business for God. If you work at a restaurant, cook, clean and take orders for the Lord. This is an easy way to share
God’s love, by living like Him.
