Today you should read: Ezekiel 26

“How you have perished,
you who were inhabited from the seas,
O city renowned,
who was mighty on the sea;
she and her inhabitants imposed their terror
on all her inhabitants!
Now the coastlands tremble
on the day of your fall,
and the coastlands that are on the sea
are dismayed at your passing.”

How important is God’s glory to him? I ask this because often we talk about giving God glory but then we still would like some glory for ourselves. I want people to think I am smart, successful, cool, etc. but in my pursuit of that desire I tend to be very self focused. Can you relate?

Israel had been seeking their idols in order to gain things like success, power, wealth, etc,. However, their sin was taking the glory for themselves. God is punishing them in a very public way in order to make an example of them to the other nations. God was putting the world on notice that He is the only one true God.

We were put here as his creation and our number one goal is to worship him and give him glory. Paul makes it clear in 1 Corinthians 10:31:

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.”

So how will you give God glory today? If you choose to take the glory for yourself are you prepared for the consequences?
