Today you should read: Colossians 1:1-14
Today we start into the book of Colossians. I am really excited to get to start this one off because the first part of chapter one is a prayer and encouragement for the church that I want to pass to you. Paul shares some great truths about Christ and His grace in this chapter but what I want to focus on today are the 4 things Paul desires for the church.
1. Complete knowledge of His will- v.9
Paul desired for God’s people to know what it was God wanted them to do and who He had made them to be. Question: do you know who God has made you to be? Do you know what He has called you to do? You can. Seek Him in His word, in prayer and through the fellowship of other believers.
2. Spiritual wisdom and understanding-v. 9
Having Knowledge of God’s will is like having the ingredients to bake a cake. Having spiritual wisdom and understanding is the recipe to use the ingredients. Paul desired that God’s people know what to do with the knowledge they had. Question: are you walking daily in the Spirit in all wisdom and understanding?
3. Strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need.- v. 11
As we walk in the wisdom and knowledge God supplies Paul knew, as do we, that trials and hardships would come our way. Paul desired that God’s people knew the peace and relief that comes from God’s power as it enables us to endure under the pressures of life. Question: are you constantly worried, tired or stressed? Are you short-tempered? If you answer yes to any of these you may be missing these traits in your life.
4. Filled with joy-v. 11
Not a fading happiness that comes fro pm the trappings of this world but rather a lasting effect of knowing, living in and hoping in this
“For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.”
Colossians 1:13-14 NLT
Question: Do you have joy or happiness? Where does it come from?
As Paul exhorted the church in Colosse so be exhorted today in these four things.
