Today you should read: Leviticus 3

The solution to guilt

The only true answer to guilt is forgiveness through repentance. God must remove the guilt of our sin through His appointed means of repentance. This is true before salvation (Luke 24:47) and after (Matt.6:12). ~ Dr. Stuart Scott
Leviticus is sometimes hard to read and if you have a weak stomach today’s passage might be even harder to get through. The lengths that God’s people had to take in order to have their sins forgiven were very serious. Not to mention the job that the priest had to do. They were sacrificing all of these animals for all the people exactly the way God wanted it done. It was very strenuous and detailed. Although, the process to having your sins forgiven was laborious it was well worth the cost.
Take Away:
1. The process of sacrifice made the people count the cost of sin.
a. If they sinned they didn’t say, “Well God forgives me anyway.” No they had to give something up that would have been very important to them. Their live stock was their livelihood. It would be like saying, “Man I have sinned so I have to give my paycheck this month to the church.” Unfortunately, many of us sin freely because we do not count the cost. Many times the cost catches up to us later on down the road.
2. The understanding of what the sacrifice represented made them appreciate their salvation.
a. Something had to pay the cost of sin. In this case, it would be an animal that would take the place of a person. However, the animal did not satisfy God’s wrath but it was a symbol of the one true messiah that would come and pay the final sacrifice. Their faith in God’s plan of redemption through the messiah is what made them clean. Jesus was the messiah and his death paid for our sin and his resurrection gave us life (1 Peter 3:18).
