Today you should read: Leviticus 6
For many of you who are parents of little ones out there you know how time consuming and how exhausting disciplining your child can be. Even as I post this I have had a rough night of constant discipline of my daughter. Having a kid really shows you the depth of our sinful nature and just how selfish we are at our core. I say all those things because reading today’s chapter really felt like God was in a similar situation with His people. God knew they were and would be stealing, lying about what happened to things, and a whole list of other things that would need His forgiveness.
God knew the people were going to enter a constant state of sin, need discipline, ask forgiveness, be forgiven and repeat. We do this same thing and we need forgiveness as well. In this chapter God lays out all the detailed rules for how receive that forgiveness (which we know was really just a foreshadowing picture of what they really needed in the sacrifice of Jesus). In Jesus, however, you and I no longer need these detailed, over bearing, cumbersome, sacrifices to receive that forgiveness. No matter what we say or do we have and can receive this forgiveness through placing our faith and trust in Jesus and His work in the cross to pay for our sins. So today rejoice and praise God that you don’t have to partake in all these tedious sacrifices but you need only trust in Christ.
