Today you should read: Revelation 4

Today we get a glimpse into the throne room of Heaven! As you read through the passage today take time to focus in on every word, phrase, and description. I can’t even imagine what John must have felt like as he was “in the Spirit” in the throne room of Heaven witnessing this divine scene of unceasing praise and worship to The Lord God! Kind of like experiencing an IMAX theater or virtual reality movie (not really, it’d be a billion times greater than that!) There is nothing to even compare this to here on earth; yet God revealed this scene to John as a revelation to him and to us of His glory.

I want to hone in on the four living creatures mentioned here in this passage. They are angels with four distinct appearances (lion, calf, man, and eagle) but with one singular purpose: Glorifying God for who He truly is!

“Day and night they never stop saying: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming.” (v.8)

These living creatures know who God truly is and because of that truth they are compelled to eternal worship of Him who sits on the throne. The words of these Heavenly hosts are also prophetic in declaring the ONE who is coming, Jesus Christ! Jesus will literally return one day soon and those of us who are in Christ will go to be with Him forever in His kingdom. And what will we do there you might ask? I imagine that when we see Jesus face to face and realize the magnitude of who He truly is and what He has done for us, we will respond much like these angels with eternal praise and worship: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God, the Almighty, who was, who is, and who is coming. His praise will be on our lips every moment for all eternity. What a day, glorious day, that will be!

But, we don’t have to wait for eternity to glorify Jesus with our lives and praise Him with our lips. Take time right now to meditate on these verses and pray them back to Jesus in prophetic declaration of His glory and in joyful expectation of His return.
