Today you should read: Revelation 14:1-13
Every nation…and tribe…and language…and people…
If I am to become more like God, I must love the nations, because God loves the nations. This has been the idea ringing in my mind during this month of “missions emphasis.” As we close this month our care and focus on the nations cannot, and should not cease. We are to always care about, pray for, give to, and go to the nations. Why? Because God cares about, upholds, gives to, and sends to the nations.
If you’re anything like me, sometimes it’s hard to care about anything that does not benefit me. Pray for things outside of myself? Give to things when I will get no return? Go to places where I will never taste the fruit? It sounds more exhausting than accomplishing things in which I will benefit from. Can you relate? Lord help us.
In our passage we see some celebratory stuff happening. Whatever we believe about the 144,000 (we don’t have enough words allowed to talk about that now :)), what we do know is that those ransomed by the blood of the lamb will be in heaven, singing a new song, as ones who have had their sins paid for, and our worship of God will be eternal!!
But smack-dab in the middle of our passage we see an angel proclaim a message.
What is the message? “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water.”
Who is the message to? “To every nation and tribe and language and people.”
Church, we must care about the nations, because God cares about the nations. His gospel is for the nations. The people he created and composes comprise the nations. He is the true God of all peoples, whether they recognize Him as their God or not.
In the culmination of all things, people from every nation will hear his message. And people from every nation will be judged. And He wants people from every nation to spend forever being satisfied in His presence.
My prayer today for myself is this: God help me to care about, pray for, give to, and go to the nations. Help me to raise my kids with a heart for the nations. Help me to lead people in my flock who have the same love for the nations as You do. I need your help in this God.
Here is a question we can ask yourself, today:
What does my prayer-life for the nations say about my heart for the nations?
If you’re interested in praying more consistently for the nations, here is a great book to keep you on track:
