Today you should read: Revelation 16:17-21

Proof of the Real Victor!

When we hear, sing, and discuss that “God has the victory” it is not without biblical proof.  This is the proof!

In our passage, today, we see God’s plan to triumph over evil come to its ultimate completion, after the seventh bowl is poured out.  After the bowl is poured out we hear a loud announcement stating, “It is done!”  God has had the victory over evil.

What I find so interesting is that directly after this, a great earthquake comes and destroys the city of Jesus’ crucifixion.  Now think about this…. When Jesus was crucified (a triumph over evil) he cried out in a loud voice, “it is finished!”  And directly after this, and earthquake shook the city.

What a picture!  As unparalleled as Jesus’ death was, it was also pointing to an even greater reality!  Jesus triumphs over evil by canceling the penalty of sin!  And God ultimately triumphs over evil by eliminating sin once and for all!  Our God is victorious.

Today’s “Walk-a-Way”

What does this mean for us?  It means we can trust God.  It means that no matter the sin or struggle we are being “defeated” by over and over, we can turn to a God who can overcome evil.  We can have confidence that one-day evil will be no more, and we will be safe and sound with our God.  And right now, I can turn to God for HELP to overcome my sin.  I can beg Him, I can trust Him, I can hold onto His words, and I don’t have to feel like my victory over sin is a hopeless journey.  He can overcome your sin right now if you will turn to Him and hide yourself in Him, just as He overcame evil on the cross and He will over come evil in the future.

Here’s a good question to ask today:

If I know that God can help me to overcome the evil in my life currently, what do I need to do to play my part?
