Today you should read: Revelation 19:6-10
In the final days after the destruction of the great prostitute “Babylon,” the bride of Christ (the church) will be announced in purity and righteousness at the marriage supper of the Lamb. This event will be one of worship and adoration for the Bridegroom (Jesus) who is worthy of ALL praise and glory and honor.
John describes the voices of the multitudes praising Jesus like the roar of many waters and the sound of mighty peals of thunder! All of Heaven and Earth are rejoicing at the finality of Christ’s reign and that the eternal worship that is due Him will finally be His forevermore.
Focusing in on verse 9 we read that those who are invited to this marriage supper are blessed. They are blessed because they are true believers who are part of the body of Christ (the church) and now they are united with Him just as He said they would be. All that Jesus said would happen is now happening and it is a glorious time!
There is however a warning in this passage. We see it in verse 10 when John is tempted to worship the angel who is showing him this revelation over Jesus Himself:
10Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.
This is a stark reminder to us that our worship belongs to NO ONE other than Jesus! Paul reminded the church of Corinth of this as well:
2 Corinthians 11:2 For I feel a divine jealousy for you, since I betrothed you to one husband, to present you as a pure virgin to Christ.
As the bride of Christ we have been betrothed to Him and Him alone. Just as a bride presents herself to her husband on their wedding day in purity completely giving herself to him for life, so shall we as the bride of Jesus reserve every ounce of our worship for Him who sacrificially gave Himself up for us so that we could be His eternally. We are to worship Him and Him alone. Here are some final questions to consider today:
- To whom/what are you giving worship other than Jesus?
- Will you be invited to the supper of the Lamb?
- Have you placed your faith in Jesus and surrendered your life to Him?
Take time today to prayerfully answer these questions and if you are unsure of your salvation or have idols that you need help defeating in your life, please do not hesitate to contact myself or one of our pastoral staff today.
