Today you should read: Revelation 21:9-27

If you are a believer, then our scripture passage today should bring joy to your heart, excitement, and wonder at the future home all believers will dwell in one day with our Lord and Savior! The description of the holy city is breathtaking even to read and one can only imagine what the actual manifestation of the New Jerusalem will entail. Its walls, gates, streets and everything in it radiate with the glory of God because His dwelling place will be there with His people! His glory will light the city and the sun will no longer be needed. All the nations will give Him all the glory and honor that He deserves. Everything in the City of God will be holy as He is holy.

[27] But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

In light of current events in our world it is almost unimaginable to think of a place where nothing evil could ever penetrate; yet that is exactly what the New Jerusalem will be like. Nothing evil, detestable, false, or anti-Christ will ever enter into God’s Holy City! The gates will never be shut because there will be “neither foe nor night to assist hostile invaders.” (ESV Study Bible)

Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life will be found there. Only those who have truly submitted their lives to the salvation and Lordship of Jesus Christ will dwell there. It will be a place of worship where God’s glory is manifest every day and true joy will exist forevermore.

Psalm 16:11 11 You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

So, as I said in the beginning of this post. If you are a believer today, these passages should fill your heart with joy at the future home that awaits you. But, it should also fill your heart with urgency for those whose names are not yet written in the Lamb’s book of life because it is clear that they will not be let into this holy city. Their eternal destination will be one of unending torment, darkness and evil. Spend some time today praying for the lost people in your life and for an opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus with them.
