Will you let your light shine today?
After finishing the “Beatitudes”, Jesus gave His hearers what has come to be one of the most well-known passages in the Bible, and it is all about salt and light. He’s talking about influence. He’s inspiring us to godliness. He’s showing us what the transformed, spirit-filled life should look like. If we’re truly blessed as verses 1-12 tell us, we will come to realize that we have been blessed to be a blessing. We’ll be salt: giving taste and preserving life. We’ll be lamps and lights: dispelling darkness, casting out fear, and providing hope in the dimmest of circumstances.
This passage points me to a great little devotional on the subject of being a light in our dark world. If you have a few minutes, please read this from Billy Graham’s team at BGEA. Maybe it will encourage you to live for Christ in a way you’ve not thought of before.
Bringing this to a close… let’s be practical: how can we apply this passage to our lives? What are some simple things we can do today or this week the be salt and light? We would love your feedback: share and suggest in the comments section.
