Today you should read: Matthew 17:14-27

There’s tremendous power in faith that most of us never fully understand in our lives.  We wonder why God doesn’t move or answer our prayers, when we so often have no faith that He will.  Those who walk by faith see things that the rest of us only dream of.

Remember what James says about this:

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.  But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.  For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.  James 1:5-8

In part of today’s reading, Jesus speaks to His disciples about this idea.  They were approached by a father who was begging for help with his son who was possessed by a demon.  The demon was causing the boy to have seizures and throwing him into the water and fire.  Jesus’ disciples tried to cast out the demon, but couldn’t so they brought him to Jesus and the demon left him and he was healed.

Later, when the disciples asked Jesus why, privately He told them they failed because they lacked faith.

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” (v.20)

You don’t have enough faith… I wonder how many times this is the case with us?  Faith is believing God can and believing He will.  What is there in your life that you don’t have enough faith for?  A wayward child to return home?  A spouse to come to Jesus?  Your marriage to be fixed?  Healing from an illness?  Your addiction to go away?

You don’t have enough faith, Jesus said.  What about you?   Faith comes as a gift from and from time spent with Him in His Word.

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God… Ephesians 2:8

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.  Romans 10:17

I hope you will think about this today and begin to make a change.  Pray and ask God to give you faith for your mountain.  Begin to read and memorize His Word so that God will speak truth and faith into you.  Believe that God can and that He will.

  1. The words that you have written are words that so many of us as Christians do not want to hear, but NEED to hear on a regular basis. Thank you for sharing this with us today, Tim!
