Today you should read: Psalm 61

This is beautiful picture of a prayer for another. This is a prayer for David. I am greatly convicted and reminded of how important it is for us as believers to offer up prayers of supplication on behalf of others. We should be going before the throne of God for our families, our friends, our brothers and sisters, the church, and the lost.

We should do this in response to who God is and what He has done. Verse 1, “hear my cry…” Verse 3, “for you have been my refuge, a strong tower against the enemy.” Trust and confidence is found in the character of God. We pray because we have hope in our Father.

What I find most interesting about this passage is that even though it is a prayer for David, it is a prayer of praise to God. I often pray and forget that I am going before the throne of God. We should relish the time that we spend with our Father. We should be ever thankful that the God of the universe is willing to lend a listening ear. We should desire to remain forever in the constant presence of God.

As you pray today, will you pray specifically for the needs of others?

Will you also take time to remember that you are in the presence of God. Do not take that lightly. Rest in His presence and give Him praise today.
