Today you should read: Proverbs 12

If you are looking for some really good tweet-able statements, then you are in the right chapter of Proverbs. Solomon has packed this section full of statements that on their own could have books written about them.

No matter who we are or what stage of life we are in, we all have the task of being who God wants us to be before us. This chapter of Proverbs has a lot of direction to this task. Solomon writes about what it looks like to be a good man in verse 2, and an excellent wife in verse 4. He goes on to talk about many attributes of character, both good and bad. Things like, righteousness, wickedness, work ethic, honesty, anxiety, laziness and more.

These are all things that we are faced with almost every day. So with that reality before us it is probably a good idea for us to heed what Solomon is saying about all of these things. For example, if you struggle with anxiety you can look to verse 25. It’s a great nugget of wisdom to direct us back and help us to refocus.

I would encourage you today to read through this chapter more than once. Ask God to reveal to you the practical connections to your life. When that has happened, take the time to memorize what God reveals for you at this time. Carry that truth with you as a reminder of how to continue being the person that God wants you to be.

  1. There seem to be so many references to how we speak in this chapter. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. It makes me check my life… what am I filling my heart with? That will overflow into my thoughts and out of my mouth. Will my words bring healthy to those who hear or pain?
