Today you should read: Luke 2:1-20
I hope that as we have entered into this new year that you are experiencing God in an even greater way than ever before. We often start resolutions and things with the new year. You hear things like “new year, new you.” When in reality the only thing changing is the date.
As we are getting into the Gospel of Luke and looking today at the Birth of Jesus, I hope you are not looking at this as repetitive since we have just finished the Christmas holiday. The Birth of Jesus should be so much more than just a one-time look each year. In verse 14 the angel that appeared said Glory to God in the highest! Remember that the same God who is seated on the throne now, came to be flesh on this earth for you and for me. It is not something that is insignificant. IT is not something that we should look at only in December. Truthfully this is not something we should ever tire of hearing.
Jesus coming to be man is the first step in God’s ultimate plan to save humanity. When I read this I am always reminded of all that happened over about 4,000 years that lead to this moment. The promise of Abraham is fulfilled through the life death and resurrection of Jesus.
My prayer for you is that you would make the Gospel and your faith in the God the priority of your life. Not just something you do when it is convenient but truly the most important thing. Starting the year in Luke is a great way to remind us that the story of Jesus is not just for Christmas, it is for every day of our lives.
