Today you should read: Revelation 7

There is so much in our passage today, but I want to focus on verses 9-17 specifically. These verses show a picture of what heaven will look like! As I was reading this, I two main thoughts:

The urgency of the Great Commission.

Seeing the picture in verses 9-10 of people from every tribe and nation is seemingly a picture of the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20, ESV)

The commission to see the gospel reach every tribe and nation will be fulfilled, and we have the opportunity to be apart of its fulfillment!

The point of heaven.

Heaven is often imagined as a place that is basically a better version of earth. While that is not completely wrong, it misses the main point: heaven is all about God! It is a place with no sin and shame, and nothing separating us from God. This passage paints a picture of it being a place where we worship Jesus for being the perfect Lamb of God who covers our sin and shame. It is a place where Jesus has made all things right and redeemed us to Himself.

This passage should motivate us to pursue the Great Commission with greater ferocity, while simultaneously growing our longing for heaven.

What stood out to you from the passage?

  1. Thank you for Jumpstart today! I see two people groups in today’s passage: 1) a missionary corps of believers and 2) the fruit of their labor – believers young and old throughout the corridor of time!
