Today you should read: 1 John 4:7-21

The word love is thrown around our culture all the time. People will say, “I love Lexington, I love pizza, I love my car, I love…” fill in the blank. But love is more than just how we feel about something. Love is an action. Love takes sacrifice. We may enjoy all of those things, but are we willing to sacrifice our own life for it? Listen, I enjoy pizza, but I can also say I am not dying for it.

There are three things I want us to see from our passage today:

  1. God is the source of love.

Our passage says “God is love” meaning that love comes from God. He did not just create love, He is love. So the question is, if you want to find love, why would you not look toward the source?

  1. God’s love was displayed by sacrifice.

Verse 9 shows that God’s love was put on display when Jesus went to the cross. He showed love by Jesus being the propitiation for our sins. There is no greater love than this.

  1. We love because He first loved us.

If God can show His love to us even while we sin against Him, why can we not extend the same kind of love to others? The way we love people can lead to Gospel conversations.

Who can you share God’s love with this week? What steps will you take to love people better?

  1. Good words today Brice. God chooses to love us and chooses not to remember our sin, even though it is completely our fault. We are called to do the same to others around us. Love is a choice. Let’s choose to extend love, grace, and forgiveness to those that have hurt us.
