Today you should read: Deuteronomy 3:1-20
Men of Valor is a term we often use or hear describing a group of warriors or troops in the military. This was the name of a popular 2015 Xbox first-person shooter video game with Marines going through certain missions in the Vietnam war. There’s also men’s conferences and ministries all over the country with the same name taking a page out of the Bible for the many references that are made for such men, including the scripture we read today.
Deuteronomy 3 starts off with Israel’s crushing defeat of Bashan. God had promised them that He would deliver them into Israel’s hands in verse 2. No matter how many cities that took (60) and how secure those cities were with walls and towers, God had started to use these battles to deliver the land He promised Israel which would make them more confident to finally cross the Jordan to conquer the remaining land. At the end of this passage we see the men of valor move forward in the fighting as the women, children and livestock stayed behind.
All of this is meant to show how God keeps his promises while using us in the process. We still need Men of Valor to fight in advancing His Kingdom on earth, although that kingdom has already come, in part, through the promise of Jesus as well.
