Today you should read: Deuteronomy 12:1-32
God takes worship seriously. Of course I don’t mean solely what we think of worship as we sing together as a congregation every Sunday; worship is more than that! Worship is a position of the heart. Here’s a few thoughts from today’s passage:
- God will not compete for your worship. You can’t have one foot in the world and one foot with God. Moses uses bold language to describe what we should do with the idols that steal away our worship of God.
- God decides how we are to worship Him. God tells us how to worship in a way that makes Him stand out from the fake gods that other people worship.
- Worship is about God not about you. In verses 8-11, we see that it is not ok for people to simply decide how to worship of God. It’s a great reminder that worship is about God, not about us. It reminds me of a meme attributed to Francis Chan I saw recently:
This is a harsh, but true, statement. How often do we allow our feelings and preferences to distract us from true worship of God?

What a great quote! Wow! It speaks reams about the human inclination to make everything about him or herself.
