Today you should read: Deuteronomy 25

In today’s passage, Moses is continuing telling the people of Israel what the Lord expects of them when they enter the Promised Land. These laws are important because Israel is to remain holy because they are God’s chosen people.

The important thing to notice in our passage comes from verse 19, “Therefore when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess.” This is so significant because Moses is telling Israel that they will have to enter the land and have rest because God is giving it to them. Israel’s responsibility is to be obedient and follow the commands of the Lord, that is their responsibility.

Jesus gave us the two greatest commandments: love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself. Are we following the two greatest commands in our life or are we distracted by other things in this world? Israel ultimately inherited the land but lost it because they were disobedient. God has promised eternal life to those who have faith in Jesus, but we still have a responsibility to be obedient to His commands. By being obedient, we show we are followers of Him and have a relationship with Him.

How are you following the two greatest commands?
