Today you should read: Jeremiah 6:10-30

Jeremiah is my hero!  He’s a bold prophet that delivers the word of the Lord – and I’m sure it’s NOT fun.  The children of Israel have been in a pattern of rebellion for… well let’s see… just about as long as they’ve existed!

To whom can I give warning?  Who will listen when I speak?

Their ears are closed, and they cannot hear.  They scorn the word of the Lord.  They don’t want to listen at all. (v.10)

Sometimes they say they are listening – and that they want to obey – but their actions fall way short of their words.

From the least to the greatest, their lives are ruled by greed.  From prophets to priests, they are all frauds.  They offer superficial treatments for my people’s mortal wound.  They give assurances of peace when there is no peace.  Are they ashamed of their disgusting actions?  Not at all—they don’t even know how to blush!  (v. 13-15)

Because of their actions, God is not interested in the false worship and sacrifices…

I will not accept your burnt offerings.  Your sacrifices have no pleasing aroma for me. (v.20)

God has promised to allow judgment to fall on His chosen people – the people He loves….

Their homes will be turned over to their enemies, as will their fields and their wives.  For I will raise my powerful fist against the people of this land, says the Lord. (v.12)

So what about us?  How are you and I like this?  How do we rebel against the hand of a gracious God?   What are the ways we know what we’re doing is wrong and do it anyway?  How do put idols ahead of God?  How do we continue in our sin?

Has God changed?  Is He less just?  Does He love us more?

What does God want you to confess and repent of?  Get accountability to avoid?  Change in your life?

My prayer today is that God will change us from the inside out and make us clean and holy vessels – ready for His use.

Listen to this song today and spend some time making commitments to your heavenly Father…

  1. “They scorn the word of the Lord.
They don’t want to listen at all.”

This segment of verse 10 has been true throughout the ages. Look at our world in 2020 and the consequences of not listening to the Word of the Lord. We deny justice, elect foolish & ungodly leaders, abort babies, redefine marriage, mock sexual abstinence before marriage, use science to reject the existence of God, and on & on.

    Luke 10:2
The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields.

Blessings to all Jumpstart readers as we enter the harvest fields this first day of June.
