Today you should read: Jeremiah 9:17-26
What an important Word from the Lord today when thinking about everything that’s going on in the world right now. We have looting and riots in most big cities across America that started off as peaceful protests revolving around the lack of listening to black voices saying they have been oppressed, and a lack of lamenting for such injustices. Of course, listening to and lamenting over these injustices should not result in sinful rioting and overall hatred for police and an overthrow of the government in comparison to needed reform, but for the first time in a long time, it seems like people are mourning with them without having to feel that it puts them on a political side.
In the same way, these women were teaching others proper mourning and lament over Jerusalem as she mourned for the lost houses, land, death, and injustices. We also see how the wise men are told not to boast in wisdom, strength, or riches but instead to learn from the grieving around them and to remember…
the LORD who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the LORD.” -Jeremiah 9:24b
Again, this is a timely passage for such times where we can pray for similar mourning around the country while remembering what the lord practices.
