Today you should read: Numbers 1

Today we get to start the book of Numbers! God put this book in the Bible to show how He is a faithful and promise-keeping God. He is showing us that He is a God that pays for what He orders.

Check out this video explaining the book of Numbers:

Wow! What a summary. It’s exciting to see what this book is all about! But today, Numbers 1, it is about how God commanded a census to be taken. God was going to use this census throughout the book but to figure out who could fight for the battle of the land…

BUT…

Another big reason for this census was to show how God had been faithful to fulfill the promise to Abraham of “descendants would be as the sand on the seashore” (Genesis 22:17). God is showing that He is faithful. He fulfills His promises. We should worship Him for that.

What promises of God have been encouraging you recently? How can you cling to those today?

  1. Has anyone ever heard this? “Numbers is my favorite book in the Bible”
Probably not! I hate to admit this but I spent many years of my Christian life skipping over, or speed reading, Numbers.

All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
    II Timothy 3:16-17

The last time I checked Mr. Webster’s Dictionary, “all” means EVERYTHING and not just the things we’d like to pick and choose. If you looked at Jumpstart today and thought you’d “sit this one out” and wait for the next book, let me encourage you to pray and ask God to help you see Numbers with fresh eyes. He might just reveal something you’ve never seen before. Blessing CPC Family and Jumpstart readers.
