Today you should read: Numbers 11
In today’s Scripture we see two important items that are just as true today as they were back then—the sin of complaining and importance of elders.
We see God’s people complaining to the Lord and to Moses for their misfortunes. It says twice that the Lord’s anger burned against them. You may think that’s a little strong for a little complaining but you’d be surprised how sinful just a little complaining can be when it’s done against the Lord. As Moses was doing his best trying to lead a bunch of whiners and complainers, he realized that his work and burden was too heavy and that he needed help shepherding. That’s where the elders came in. God gave Moses 70 men to help carry the load with the delegated responsibilities that Moses divvied out to them. They were first given the gift of prophecy along with Moses but soon lost it but were still looked upon as God ordained men who can help shepherd God’s flock.
Today we see how important it is to have elders who do the same and a reminder of how much God is angered at our complaining.
