Today you should read: Ezekiel 2

In chapter 1, Ezekiel recalls seeing & understanding the glory of God and how majestic God truly is. Then in chapter 2, we see something else special…. The calling of God on Ezekiel’s life. This is similar to the pattern seen with Isaiah in Isaiah 6 where he sees the glory of God and then is called of God. Here is something important that we see…When we see & understand God… it changes everything about our lives. This was true with Isaiah and now it is true with Ezekiel and I am sure it has been true in your life as well.

We see God call Ezekiel and commission him to do great things for the name of God. But this was not in his own power… God gave him His Holy Spirit (v.2). The Spirit of God is what empowered Him.

Then we see what God called him to do. He called him to go to the people of Israel who had rebelled against God (v.3) and call them to repentance. Call them to see the glory of God again in their lives and turn back and follow Him. But He also warned Ezekiel… Don’t be like them! Don’t fall into their ways! (v.8-10)

Blessed is the man

    who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,

nor stands in the way of sinners,

    nor sits in the seat of scoffers;

2 but his delight is in the law of the Lord,

    and on his law he meditates day and night.

Psalm 1:1-2

God called Ezekiel to a HIGH CALLING and to be a leader. He called him to be a leader that:

  1. Was EMPOWERED by the Holy Spirit of God.
  2. Spoke TRUTH even when it was hard.
  3. Lived a HOLY life.

God has called us to high things as well. To make disciples of all nations. To speak truth in love. To help people know Jesus, the only one who is their hope. May we be the same.
