Today you should read: Ezekiel 7
In these chapters we see God’s wrath and judgment on His people. We see this for idolatry in the last chapter and now God warns all who live in the land of Israel that they will receive high consequences for their disobedience and sin. One thing that sticks out the most to me in this chapter is the very end where Ezekiel mentions the roles of prophet, priest, elders and kings being diminished.
26 Disaster comes upon disaster; rumor follows rumor. They seek a vision from the prophet, while the law perishes from the priest and counsel from the elders.
27 The king mourns, the prince is wrapped in despair, and the hands of the people of the land are paralyzed by terror. According to their way I will do to them, and according to their judgments I will judge them, and they shall know that I am the LORD.” Ezekiel 7:26-27
This is sad knowing that these leaders are not only used by God to lead His people but because many of those roles point us to the three fold fulfillment of Jesus as our perfect and great high priest, prophet and king.
