Today you should read: Job 9

“If only there were a mediator between us, someone who could bring us together.” Job 9:33

If only…

Job was a righteous man and surely knew God had something in mind to save His people. Surely Job knew the situation humanity was in. He had to know that God and man, because of sin, were a billion miles apart with no way for man to get back to God.

If only…

There had to be a way for our sin to be forgiven and for us to be acquitted. Job knew, even in His righteousness, he was guilty as are we all. Our best defense and our best works don’t even come close to being a good defense in God’s courtroom. And how could we tell God He’s wrong? Job lets us know in detail that we can’t. So when we stand before God not only is our defense useless but we can’t even speak before Him.

If only…

We needed a mediator. We needed a go-between who could both understand and sympathize with our weakness while being holy and perfect in their standing with God. Where would this person come from? Who would be that mediator between God and man?

Jesus is the answer to the “If only”

This may be my favorite Jumpstart I have ever written. Even as I write this I am fighting tears for the joy and amazement thinking of what Paul tells us in 1 Timothy 2:5.

“For there is only one God and one mediator who can reconcile God and humanity- the man Christ Jesus.”

It took God Himself in bodily form, Christ Jesus, coming to us to make this happen. So today, praise God for answering the question for us.

If only…
